Favorite Bunuel film?

Mine is probably "Exterminating Angel" followed by "The Phantom of Liberty." Hmm, an angel following a phantom.

All Bunuel movies have there moments however. Of course, who could forget "Un Chen Andalou?"

yes, they all do have their moments ...

That's interesting. I remember "Belle de Jour" very well (particularly the mud throwing and the bells) but not "Diary of a Chambermaid" (though I saw it at least once back in the 1970s). Imagery sticks in my mind much longer than storylines however. The only thing I remember is that it was a lower key drama and had less bizarre imagery than others of Bunuel.

I would have to say "Los Olvidados", it still feels earth shaking after so long. Then, it would probably be "Exterminating Angel" and "The Discreet Charm..."

I do have a soft spot in my heart for the context of "Simon of the Desert".

Obscure object of desire & Discrete Charm are my favorites. I really enjoyed Belle du Jour for the clothes, interiors, etc.. Earlier work (Olivados, El, Chambermaid) was obviously by a good filmaker, but the later work is much more exciting for me.

I agree about "Land...". It gives basic understanding of the process that Bunuel was just then starting and perhaps, I might even venture to say, that it gives more insight into what would be his later films. Also, it remains a very interesting combination of art and film in the then nascent venture of documentary film making.

I've been watching Obscure Object of Desire lately, thanks to Criterion's DVD release, and I have to say its quickly become my favorite Bunuel film.
